NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2011

Following the Anniversary Celebrations the Sound Museum Marks the Start of 2011 with a Full Programme.

In 2010 Haus der Musik had multiple reasons to celebrate: Counting more than 215.000 visitors, the past year was one of great success for the Sound Museum. In addition to the permanent exhibition, it was particularly the monthly "Live on Stage" concert series and the many children's concerts, which drew visitors of all age groups to Haus der Musik.

In June 2010 thousands of visitors participated in Haus der Musik's ten-year anniversary celebrations. During ten days artists from Austria and beyond provided a unique atmosphere in the Sound Museum's inner courtyard.

At the beginning of October 2010, Haus der Musik drew more than 7.000 visitors during the ORF Long Night of Museums. It was a joyous new record, ranking the Sound Museum as Austria's fifth most popular museum.

An extensive photo gallery of last year's events can be found here.

In 2011 our visitors can yet again look forward to a diverse musical programme: During the first quarter of the year Haus der Musik continues its Live-on Stage series with a number of double concerts. Of course we also carry on with our popular children's concerts.

With more than 7,000 visitors, Haus der Musik was among Austria's five most popular museums during the ORF Long Night of Museums; a joyous new record!

Equally successful, albeit in front of a smaller audience, was our "Evening for Leonard Bernstein." Prominent guests shared anecdotes about the famous musician and set the hearts of classic aficionados racing. We brought the month to an end with a grandiose performance by the Swedish band Hellsongs. A retrospect in pictures on past events can be found here.

Moving on to November...

A particular highlight is coming up as early as November 5. The 13th international a-capella festival Voicemania will be kicked-off in Haus der Musik's inner courtyard. Entry to the festival of vocal acrobats is free!

The popular Mozart Boys Choir Vienna is back for a free concert this month. On November 12, the renowned choir returns to the Sound Museum's glass-roofed inner courtyard with a performance sure to lure in young and old. Marko Simsa presents „Tschiribim, Klezmer for Kids," Mai Cocopelli introduces „Little Yogi" and towards the end of the month Bernhard Fibich strikes up the first advent carols. Of course November would not be complete without a Live on Stage concert. In cooperation with the Vienna Songwriting Association, Haus der Musik presents Unbunny on November 24.

Last but not least our tip for you: The Blue Bird festival takes place from November 25 - 27. The festival, organised by the Vienna Songwriting Association, features a wide range of artists from the Songwriting genre and is an absolute MUST!
