Haus der Musik

NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2012

Sonorous Opening

Before 2011 comes to an end, Haus der Musik invites its visitors to stop by on December 31, and try themselves at conducting pieces of the world famous New Year's Concert. In using our "Virtual Conductor" installation, everyone now has the opportunity to conduct the Blue Danube Waltz or the Radetzky March. The Sound Museum offers free entry from 2pm to 10pm. In addition one can discover the history of the New Year's Concert and enjoy a Best-Of version of the renowned performance at the Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic.

2011 was a successful year for Haus der Musik. In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum offered numerous concerts, colourful children's programming, special exhibitions, its new installation "NAMADEUS," and as a result of it all, recorded yet another increase in visitors. Haus der Musik's first SpringBreak-Festival in March 2011 drew more than 2000 visitors, warranting the continuation of the festival in 2012. For 3 days musicians from in- and outside Austria heated up the museum's courtyard with free performances.

At the beginning of October 2011 a few thousand people came to Haus der Musik during the ORF Long Night of Museums, which consequently ranked among the ten most visited Austrian museums. That same month, Haus der Musik presented its new installation "NAMADEUS," an interactive computer programme based on Mozart's musical game KV 516f which offers visitors the opportunity to playfully turn their names into original Mozart interpretations.

Pictures of the events of 2011 can be found in our extensive picture archive.

In 2012 our visitors can yet again look forward to a diverse musical programme: Haus der Musik continues its Live-on Stage series, which will be kicked-off by "Haight-Ashbury" on January 24, 2012. Of course we also carry on with our popular children's concerts with Marko Simsa and Bernhard Fibich, as well as our artist's talk series featuring the Vienna Philharmonic. You can look forward to the second edition of our "SpringBreak-Festival" in March 2012 and numerous other events throughout the year. Towards the end of 2012 we will surprise you with an innovation in our exhibition area. We shall tell you more about this soon...
