Haus der Musik

NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2011

Setting the mood for winter with music

Haus der Musik drew almost 5,000 visitors during the "ORF Long Night of Museums." At the Sound Museum the city's night owls enjoyed outstanding live performances by EFFI, Laura Stevenson & The Cans and Der Nino aus Wien, and tested the new music installation NAMADEUS. A retrospect of this year's Long Night of Museums can be viewed in our photo archive.

November offers a choice of highlights also. The month opens with a thought-provoking artist's talk with German conductor Christian Thielemann. Hosted by Clemens Hellsberg, the evening will be musically accompanied by members of the Vienna Philharmonic. Entry is free.

Around mid-month, our young visitors can choose from three different events. While our children's favourites Bernhard Fibich and Marko Simsa bring the kids on stage to play and sing along, the performance by the famous Mozart Boys Choir Vienna makes for a more contemplative atmosphere.

Those curious to learn how exactly the human voice functions, can venture onto an acoustic discovery journey into the Sea of Voices, our museum highlight of the month!

From November 16 onwards, new and unusual sounds will be filling the Sound Museum. A new cabinet exhibition introduces the international scientific-educational project Accentus Musicalis. Photographs, texts and audio-visual material, document a series of interpretative workshops and artistic performances aimed at reviving contemporary interpretation of the rhetoric of 16th - 18th century music.

Of course contemporary music must not be missing from the Sound Museum. On November 23, Haus der Musik presents not one but two exceptional talents Live-on-Stage. The performances by Swiss musician Annakin and the brilliant Ezra Furman - touring solo for the first time - mark also the launch of this year's Blue Bird Festival 2011.

Created by the Vienna Songwriting Association, the three-day festival offers everything the musical heart desires. Be there when international and local musicians like Tunng, Dear Reader, Mika Vember and many more, rock the stage at Porgy & Bess!

We wish you a pleasant month of November and hope you enjoy reading our newsletter!

Live On Stage: Ezra Furman. Support Annakin
November 23, 2011 at 8pm

Unrestrained rock 'n' roll with a soul of punk and folk in its veins is how one would describe the first two albums of "Ezra Furman and The Harpoons." Despite the occasional comparison with Bob Dylan, the freshness of Ezra Furman's vocals cannot be denied. In his first solo tour, Ezra re-visits his oeuvre and offers unknown insights by performing re-interpretations of his songs acoustically.
