Noisy celebrations in the Sound Museum

Hermann Nitsch, one of the most important contemporary artists in Austria, recently honoured with his own spectacular museum in Naples to mark his 70th birthday, has designed new flooring for the entire third floor at HAUS DER MUSIK: a composition of rhythmical elements and structures and a work of art to be walked on, in contrast to the world of sounds to be heard in the museum. A "sound.carpet".

A few days ago, 5,500 visitors came to the museum for the traditional "Long Night of Museums", which the Sound Museum has been part of right from the start. More than 427,000 people in Austria, Lichtenstein and the Southern Tyrol set off on a cultural journey in order to visit one or more of over 600 participating museums. Once again, HAUS DER MUSIK was one of the most popular locations, with music, entertainment for all and a fantastic, lively atmosphere. Proof once again that entertainment no longer consists only of football and blockbusters.

Apart from all that, there is still plenty going on at HAUS DER MUSIK: new sound installations and a focus on Joseph Haydn in 2009, guided tours and concerts for children, Live on-Stage highlights in October and November, panel discussions, etc: a varied programme for children and adults!

Posch, the Managing Director of the HAUS DER MUSIK, and many prominent guests from the worlds of culture and business.

5,500 visitors: a record for the Long Night of Museums

Marko Simsa and Safer Six A Capella enthralled the kids with "Wickie und die singenden Männer" ("Wickie and the Singing Men"), whilst it was clear that their parents were also greatly enjoying themselves. After all, many of them had grown up with Wickie.
In the evening, there was indie pop from Lower Austria: Francis International Airport, a young quartet from Lower Austria, which would actually be more at home in a back alley in Brooklyn, played a rousing mix of well-known and not-so-well-known music.
